BULLETIN - PROTECTING PERSONAL INFORMATION

CUETS Financial is encouraging credit unions to remind members not to disclose personal or financial information over the phone or on the Internet. May 2010 Several CHOICE REWARDS cardholders were contacted in a telephone scam. The cardholders were told they had won a free trip through the CHOICE REWARDS program. These calls are fraudulent - please advise your members not to disclose any personal information.

June 2010 Cardholders were sent an email that informed them of a non-existent program called “Cash Points” and were told to update their credit card account information to win 1,000 points. These e-mails are fraudulent – please advise your members to delete this email and not click on the link in the message that directs people to a fraudulent version of the cucardsonline.com site, where they’re asked to enter information.

You can help protect yourself with these simple tips: Report a lost or stolen card as soon as you notice it is missing. CUETS Financial will cancel your card and issue you a new one. Make it a habit to regularly check your transactions online or on your monthly statement. If there are any charges that you didn’t make, report them to CUETS Financial right away. Never give out your card number over the phone or Internet unless you know you are dealing with a reputable company. Protect your Personal Identification Number (PIN): don’t share it with anyone or write it down, memorize it. It’s important to know that CUETS Financial would never call to ask for personal information like your credit card number, expiry number, PIN, or the security number on the back of your card.

FOR MORE TIPS on how to safeguard your money, please visit the Canadian Bankers Association website at www.cba.ca.

WARNING: FRAUDULENT EMAILS - Report these to Canadian Anti-Fraud Call Centre - PhoneBusters at: 1-888-495-8501 or info@phonebusters.com

NOTICE - due to an increase in ATM and POS fraud activity, the Police Credit Union has lowered the limits of access. New daily limit for ATM withdrawals is now $300 and for Point-of-Sale or Interac purchases is now $500.

NOTICE - funds must be available in your account the day before the date on your cheque or in the case of a PAD (pre-authorized debit) the day before it is due to come out. If there are insufficient funds in your account, your cheque or PAD may be returned as NSF and your account will be subject to service charges.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO ATM HOLDS - all deposits to any ATM will be held until the afternoon of the next business day.

MASTERCARD UPDATE - as a result of CUETS Limited being taken over by MBNA Canada Bank on October 1st, the Credit Union MasterCard can no longer be used in Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea or Sudan.
