Fund-Raising Success

We asked a few homeowners about why they would donate money or make a purchase from someone at their door.  Most said they would do it to help kids out with their teams and clubs, but they did point out a few good reasons why they might donate to one child more than another…

• Wear the uniform of your team or club when you go around.
• If it’s for school, have some kind of envelope or letter from the school showing that you are representing something real.
• Look the person in the face and speak clearly about what you are doing. Practice at home first so you know what to say. Make sure you tell the price clearly.
• Take a parent!  It is not really safe behaviour to go door-to-door by yourself.
• Are you good with money?  Make sure you know how to give change properly. You can even write it on your money envelope so you don’t make a mistake.
• Try not to be nervous. Most people are pretty nice. If you do get someone who is a bit grumpy, don’t let it bother you; maybe they had a bad day, or maybe you are the 4th person to ask for money at the door that day.
• ALWAYS say thank you very clearly.
