Safety Makes a Splash!

Top swimming safety rules, plus other summertime tips.

  1. Always have an adult supervise water fun.
  2. Check how deep the water is before going in.
  3. Always jump and slide feet first.
  4. Always wear a life jacket on a boat.
  5. Wait 30 minutes after eating before swimming.Swim at your own level, don’t copy friends.
  6. No running, pushing or rough behaviour on the deck or in the water.
  7. Pools and electricity don’t mix!
  8. Visit public restrooms or washrooms with a buddy or parent.
  9. Do not swim in water that has been posted as unsafe for swimming.Use sunscreen and reapply all day long.
  10. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes.
  11. Stay away from pools that are covered up.Stay away from rivers and creeks that may be full to overflowing. Banks can give way.
  12. Never touch pool chemicals.
  13. Stay away from drains, filters and drain covers in pools and hot tubs! Keep body parts and long hair away from these areas!
  14. Young children should not go into hot tubs – the water is too hot for their bodies to compensate.
